This policy explains what information is collected when you visit dapperdon.dd3vans.org (the Site), home of Blaklan: The Weight of Power, and how it is used. The Site is run by Derrick Evans, who publishes fiction under the name Dapper Don (I, me).
The short version
- I do not sell your personal information.
- The Site has no advertising or analytics trackers and does not set cookies to track visitors.
- The only personal information I collect on purpose is your name and email address if you join my reader list to get The Osei File.
- You can unsubscribe at any time.
Information collected
Reader list signup. When you request The Osei File, you enter your first name, last name and email address, and agree to receive email from me. That form is hosted by StoryOrigin, a third-party service for author giveaways. StoryOrigin passes your details to me and to Kit, the email service I use to deliver the file and send my newsletter.
Basic visit data. Like most websites, the Site’s hosting provider (IONOS) may automatically log technical details when a page loads, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, and the date and time. I use this only to keep the Site running and secure.
Fonts. The Site loads its fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches them, Google receives your IP address and basic browser information.
Security. To protect the Site from attacks, I use the Wordfence security plugin. It may record your IP address, browser details, and the pages or login attempts requested, so that it can block malicious traffic and limit repeated failed logins. Wordfence’s maker may receive limited attack data, such as the IP addresses of blocked requests, to improve protection for all sites.
Comments. Some posts may allow comments. If you leave one, the Site stores your name, email address, website (if you give one), the comment itself, and your IP address and browser details to help prevent spam. Your email address is not shown publicly. WordPress may check an anonymized version of your email address with Gravatar to see whether you have a profile picture.
Cookies. The Site does not use advertising or analytics cookies. If you leave a comment and tick the box to save your details, your browser stores cookies so you do not have to retype them next time. Sites you reach through links, such as Amazon, TikTok and StoryOrigin, set their own cookies under their own policies.
How I use information
- To send you The Osei File and the updates you signed up for, including new chapters, first looks and news about the series.
- To reply to messages you send me.
- To keep the Site secure and working properly.
I do not sell or rent your information, and I do not use it for advertising.
Who handles your information
These service providers process information on my behalf, only to provide their service, and each has its own privacy policy:
- StoryOrigin (reader giveaway signup)
- Kit (email delivery and my newsletter)
- IONOS (website hosting)
- Google Fonts (font delivery)
- Wordfence (website security)
I may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Links to other sites
The Site links to Amazon, TikTok and StoryOrigin. Those sites run under their own policies, and I am not responsible for how they handle your information. When you read or buy the book on Amazon, Amazon handles that transaction, and I do not receive your payment details.
How long I keep information
I keep your name and email address while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them, I will remove them from my list. Comments stay until they are deleted. Server logs are kept for the period set by the hosting provider.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe: every email I send includes an unsubscribe link.
- Ask to see, correct or delete the information I hold about you by contacting me at the address below.
Depending on where you live (for example California, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom), you may have additional rights over your personal information, such as the right to know what is collected, to request deletion, or to object to certain uses. I will respond to valid requests as the law requires.
Children
The Site and my newsletter are not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given me their information, contact me and I will delete it.
Security
I take reasonable steps to protect the Site, including HTTPS encryption. No website or service can guarantee complete security.
Changes to this policy
If I change this policy, I will post the new version here and update the date at the top.
